The word parquet originates from the French word ‘parqueterie, ’ which was the practice of laying large diagonal squares used first at the Palace of Versailles. Parqueterie was used because the constant washing of marble flooring rotted the joists beneath the floors. The benefits of choosing a parquet floor today would be the durability and beauty of the finished product. In addition, little maintenance is required for a parquet wood floor.

We contacted Mark at Stockbridge Flooring when we were in the process of renovating our flat. The hardwood floors were in poor condition, particularly the ones hidden under carpet. Mark provided a reliable and competitive quote, and was very helpful in answering our questions. His team did an amazing job sanding and repairing the floors, and bringing them back to life.
They didn't leave any mess whatsoever, and were very accommodating when I was working from home. We are really happy with the final result, and would highly recommend Stockbridge Flooring!

I was very pleased with the work that Darren did with the floorboards in the hallway and study. A really good job and the colour match with the living room floor was excellent. In fact, I was so pleased with the work that I've just had the bedroom floor done too. It was really easy to communicate with Mark and Darren. I can highly recommend Stockbridge flooring.

Darren and his team did an excellent job with my very very old and worn pine floor. It's doesn't squeak any more and it looks amazing! Really acommodating when everything is in upheaval. Only thing I'd say is make sure to take down everything as the dust from the sanding gets everywhere! Even after they cleaned up :

Mark and his team did an truly amazing job, I would recommend them in an instant. The restoration of the floor in my studio is exceptional - it was loose, grey, uneven and had large gaps, but now it is rich, warm, smooth and solid with a beautiful finish. It was a perfect job, the team were clean, efficient and dealing with them was fast and simple.

Mark and his team have done a superb job laying a new parquet floor for us in a traditional New Town dining room. Fine materials and quality craftsmanship combined in a beautiful result that is completely in keeping with the period. It has added a wow factor to the room, but without looking brand new - quite a feat. It is too early to say how it will age, but at this point I can recommend for looks the 3 stage solvent based polyurethane varnish they use on new oak.
Mark did his best to accommodate - cheefully!- our exacting requirements. Not the cheapest quotation we had, but decidedly good value. You have to pay for quality, and that is what Stockbridge Flooring deliver.

Mark and his team repaired, sanded, stained and varnished 6 floors in our Edinburgh Georgian property conversion. Their work was excellent and we are delighted with the result.
